Our spectacular Kid Village will offer supervised care in a big and fun play area all weekend for kids aged 1-6. (Your chld needs to be walking in order to use Kid Village.) There is a bounce house, kid sized grocery store, super heros, tent and tunnels, toys, dolls and beds, art, etc. If you want your child participating in Kid Village, full registration is required. The vast majority of kids who go to Kid Village love it - many not even wanting to leave when their parents come to get them!

Here is how Kid Village works: You may leave your age 1-6 child in Kid Village as often as you like all weekend. It is always supervised and there is also at least one other volunteer in there. The door is closed or gated to prevent kids from entering and exiting on their own. If you want your child to be able to come and go when they want (free range kids), they may do so. If you don't want your child to come and go without you or some other authorized person, you will tell us. If your child asks to leave Kid Village or asks for you, or needs a diaper change, we will call you on your cell phone and ask you to come pick him up right away. He is welcome back to Kid Village anytime.

Infants in arms should not register for the conference. They will be with their parents all weekend and are welcomed in all adult sessions at all times. We have many breastfeeding babies at this conference, so if you are one of them, know that you will feel most comfortable. If your infant is crying, please leave the session until s/he is calm. Feel free to bring a blanket and her own toys to use in the adult sessions for her. You may not leave your infant in Kid Village at any time.

GRANDPARENTS are invited to attend Rethinking Education 2008... almost for FREE! We believe the enthusiastic support of grandparents is vital to the well-being and success of your unschooling family... in many cases. If you have grandparents in your family that are either supportive of your unschooling efforts or are eager for more information about how unschooling works, please consider inviting them to attend. We will offer some special "grandparent-focused" events this year as well.

Grandparent registration is $25 per grandparent and includes our fabulous dinner buffet on Sunday night.

BE SURE to register the grandparents who will be attending so we can have nametags ready and a proper welcome.

Here is what one grandparent told us last year:
"One week ago today we entered the world that you have enabled, which allows people who love their children to experience a special freedom to learn. Your time, talent and love for this mission is a wonderful gift. Every thing we heard, saw or felt opened doors for us, not just as Grandparents, but as fellow travelers on this learning journey. We were so inspired observing our daughter have her Mothering instincts affirmed. We now appreciate how our older unschooling daughter was enabled to continue the freedom of learning for their family through this conference and all the people involved. Thank you for and awesome experience of 'Life Long Learning'."

CONFERENCE SYLLABUS... $20
Back by popular request, we will be producing a conference syllabus again this year, as we did last year. The syllabus will be a spiral bound notebook of over 100 pages containing a comprehensive collection of all speaker handouts, resources, etc. for the entire weekend. The syllabus enables you to get the best wisdom and resources from each session, regardless of whether you were able to attend the session or not. Pre-order is highly recommended.

Overnight Room Accommodations at the WESTIN PARK CENTAL Hotel
Be sure to make your hotel reservation as soon as possible! We are very happy to be at the wonderful Westin Park Central which is offering us an exceptional rate of $89 per night. Suite pricing is also available, as is a $30 upgrade to the Club Floor complimentary breakfast.

We highly recommend you check into the Westin on either Wednesday, Sept. 3 or Thursday, Sept. 4 and check out on Monday, September 8, although you may stay as many nights as you like, and staying at the hotel is not a requirement for attending the conference!

Did you know that you can volunteer to offset your registration fee? See what volunteer jobs are available or email Barb to let her know you are interested.

Please contact us if you have any questions about how to register. Full details are on the Registration Form.

Important Note!

We make every effort to offer a diverse, creative range of thinking and activity at the Rethinking Education Conference. 'Thinking Outside the Box' is what we aim to achieve during our weekend together and our goal has been to create space that allows everyone to do that. Rethinking Education humbly requests that each conference attendee agree to the following:

#1 - Each adult is solely responsible for themselves and if a parent, his/her children in attendance during this weekend. We love knowing you and your children are free to have the run of the hotel property and have strived to plan a safe and inviting atmosphere that respects that freedom. To that end, we require that every adult accept complete responsibility for both the safety and behavior of their self and the children in their care.

#2 - Our sessions are designed to offer a wide-ranging of theories, activities & fresh ideas. It is at your discretion to decide what is relevant or not to you personally and how you will act upon any information presented. We expect each person in attendance to understand that, while we support each and every speaker and workshop presenter, all ideas, methods and philosophies given are solely those of the speaker and presenter and do not reflect any kind of official position made by Rethinking Education. Henceforth, Rethinking Education is not responsible for any advice given or acted upon.

By registering you acknowledge your agreement to the above. Now, with all that out of the way, let's get this conference off the ground!

We hope our efforts on your behalf far exceed all your expectations and leave you with lasting memories, support to follow your heart's desire, and the wisdom to nurture and educate the next generation with freedom, respect and abiding love.
